Polk Community College, now known as Polk State College, is a public college found in Winter Haven, Florida. Polk College is part of the Florida College System. In 2009, the school decided to change its name to the Polk State College to better reflect its bachelor degree program. The school officially started classes in 1964 as the Polk Junior College. The school’s main campus is found in Winter Haven, with another campus found in Lakeland, found nearby.
Polk Community College receives an average enrollment of just over 10,000 students, with a over 8,500 of them being non-credit students. The school has a faculty and staff of over 1,000 members. Of the credit students, over 5,000 go to the Lakeland campus, around 4,000 attend the Winter Haven Campus, and more than 500 attend the Lake Wales campus. The Collegiate High School was opened in the Lakeland Campus in 2004, and the Chain of Lakes Collegiate High School opened in Winter Haven in 2006.
The school features College Libraries that serve the students of the local community including the local high schools and the local community colleges. The libraries feature a increasing collection of literature, audio and video formats, traditional and virtual resources such as art prints and sculptures, as well as digital copies of these resources.
Polk Community College is a member of Division I of the NJCAA. The school competes in the Suncoast Conference. The school fields teams in volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, and cheerleading.
